How to hi-fi

Stereo systems are as unique as the music they bring to life.

Building a great system isn’t just about choosing the gear — it’s about choosing the right gear.

We’re here to help you to make the best choice given your listening preferences, room and budget.

If you’re new to hi-fi, check out our interactive guide highlighting the basics of system design — it’s a great place to start your journey.

Source

Where music is born

Your source is whatever feeds music into the system — a turntable, network streamer, CD transport, DAC, or music server. Many integrated amplifiers include built-in DACs, phono stages, and even network streaming, so fewer separate source components may be needed.

Integrated amplifier

Preamp + power amp in one chassis

An integrated amplifier combines the preamplifier and power amplifier into a single unit — handling source selection, volume control, and speaker drive. Many modern integrateds also include built-in DACs, phono stages, and network streaming, simplifying the system into a true all-in-one solution.

Speaker cables

High-current connection

Speaker cables carry the amplified, high-current signal to the loudspeakers. Conductor gauge and quality matter — the cable needs to deliver power efficiently without introducing resistance or coloration.

Loudspeakers

Signal becomes sound

The loudspeaker converts electrical energy into sound waves. Speakers have the widest sonic variation of any component, which is why auditioning in person matters.

Your room

The final component

The listening room shapes every sound that reaches your ears. Furnishings, speaker placement, and room dimensions all play a role. Thoughtful setup can unlock performance your gear already has.

Source

Where music is born

Every system starts here. The source is whatever device holds or receives your music — a turntable, streamer, CD transport, or music server. The quality of the source sets the ceiling for everything downstream.
AnalogDigital

Turntable

Traces the groove

A turntable spins a vinyl record at a precise speed while a stylus rides the groove, translating tiny physical undulations into an electrical signal.

Phono stage

RIAA equalization

The signal from a cartridge is about 1,000x weaker than line level. The phono stage amplifies it and applies the RIAA equalization curve.

Streamer / CD transport

Digital retrieval

Digital sources retrieve music as a data stream. The precision of the transport's clock and how cleanly it delivers data to the DAC are what matter most.

DAC

Digital to analog

The digital-to-analog converter translates a stream of numbers back into a continuous analog waveform your amplifier can work with.

Preamplifier

Source selection, volume, and may apply gain

The preamplifier selects your source, controls volume, and may apply gain. Its transparency is critical — it touches every signal in the chain.

Interconnects

Signal cables

Interconnect cables carry the delicate line-level signal between components. Well-designed cables minimize noise and signal degradation.

Power amplifier

Current to drive speakers

The power amplifier multiplies the line-level signal into the high-current output needed to physically move speaker drivers.

Speaker cables

High-current connection

Speaker cables carry the amplified signal to the loudspeakers. Conductor gauge and quality matter at these current levels.

Loudspeakers

Signal becomes sound

The loudspeaker converts electrical energy into sound waves — the only component making the leap from electricity to air pressure.

Your room

The final component

Room dimensions, furnishings, and speaker placement shape the music as much as any electronic component. Thoughtful setup unlocks performance your gear already has.

Source

Where music is born

Your headphone source can be as simple as a phone or laptop, or as refined as a dedicated network streamer, turntable, or CD transport. Many headphone DAC/amps include built-in streaming and digital inputs, keeping the system beautifully simple. Whatever feeds the signal, high-resolution headphones will reveal every detail.

Headphone amplifier

Precision power for headphones

A dedicated headphone amplifier delivers clean, controlled power that high-end headphones need to perform at their best — unlocking dynamics, bass control, and spatial detail you can't get from a standard headphone jack.

Headphones

Personal listening

Open-back designs provide a wide, speaker-like soundstage, while closed-back models offer isolation. From planar magnetic to dynamic drivers, the technology determines how faithfully music reaches your ears.

Source

Film, TV, and music

Home theatre sources include streaming devices, Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, and music streamers. We bring hi-fi principles to home theatre — the same attention to signal quality that makes music come alive.

Display

TV or projector

We carry Sony's premium television and projector lines — from flagship BRAVIA to laser projectors for true cinema-quality imaging. The right display paired with proper calibration brings the director's intent into your living room.

Processor / receiver

Decoding and routing

The surround processor or AV receiver decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and other formats, manages HDMI switching, and routes audio to the correct channels. We focus on simple, amazing sounding solutions.

Amplification

Power for every channel

Each speaker needs amplification. A 2.1 setup needs two channels plus a powered sub. 5.1 adds center and surrounds. Atmos adds height channels for a fully immersive dome of sound.

Speakers + subwoofer

2.1, 5.1, or Atmos

At every level, we select speakers with the same hi-fi sensibility we bring to two-channel listening — because great theatre starts with great sound.

Your space

Where it all comes together

Whether it's a dedicated theatre or your living room, speaker placement, seating position, acoustics, and light control all matter. We design systems that work beautifully in real rooms.
